Imaginate at Scottish Dance Theatre with Hayley Earlam

28 Feb 2024

News Story

The Scottish Dance Theatre team have been working at Kings Park school in Dundee this month with Dance Artist Hayley Earlam to develop Brrr - a sensory installation with live performance for audiences with additional support needs aged 10+.

An immersive exploration of winter, Brrr runs as a durational performance for audiences to enter, leave and return on their choosing. The piece seeks to provide an autonomous space for the audience to respond in their own way and to offer a gentle/soothing/responsive space where the audience has choice and is at the forefront of the work.

Through this Imaginate at Scottish Dance Theatre residency, Hayley interrogated the existing score alongside Ben McEwen, Kai Tomioka and Thomas Goodwin through a movement and choreographic lens and explored a new section, looking at vibration and our internal brrr!

Hayley said, "The week in residence at Scottish Dance Theatre & Kingspark School was a week of joy and of wonder. My thanks to the wonderful students and staff of Kingspark for all their support. Sharing practice with the dancers from Scottish Dance Theatre has developed the possibilities of sensory theory, the sharing of dance and making meaningful connections with our audience has been a memorable experience."
