Dance for the curious, made in Scotland.

We are Scottish Dance Theatre.

We started out as grassroots community company in 1986 and we are now Scotland’s flagship contemporary dance company.

We are committed to the art form we love and the people we share it with. And we don’t shy away from the creative tension between high art and social responsibility.

We embrace our roots in the city of Dundee, a small city in the Northeast of Scotland with a proud industrial heritage, surrounded by breathtaking nature and farming and fishing communities.

We are outward looking. We collaborate with artists from all over the world and take our work everywhere we can: from remote village halls in the Scottish Highlands to opera houses in South America. From art festivals in Europe to local schools, prisons and shopping centres.

Since 2019 Catalan choreographer Joan Clevillé is the Artistic Director of the company. He used to be a company dancer, so he knows it well! Joan cares about artistic exploration, Learning (with a capital L) and a desire to connect with others, however scary that may be.

Scottish Dance Theatre is part of the creative hub of Dundee Rep Theatre, and together we invite you to experience a world in motion, a world fuelled by the creative energy of our bodies and imaginations where dance is as a vehicle for Change.

We are Scottish Dance Theatre. We dare to imagine a world in motion.
