What is Rep Stripped?
Rep Stripped is Dundee Rep and Scottish Dance Theatre’s platform for fresh work, new voices and bold ideas. Built on the success of previous years, which have included early iterations of No Love Songs and A History of Paper, the festival continues to celebrate creativity, innovation and the future of performance, offering audiences the chance to be the first to discover new work.
For the first time, this year’s festival will seek both dance and text-based works, to celebrate Scottish Dance Theatre’s 40th Anniversary. The 2026 festival is under the creative direction of Fraser Scott (Independent Theatre Director).

FAQ
What are we looking for?
We are looking to showcase new and exciting pieces of dance, theatre and musical theatre works. These should be projects that are in a progressed stage of development, where testing them in front of an audience feels like the right next step. Perhaps it is a piece that was previously developed but then put in a drawer and is yet to see the light of day. Selected works won't be at the very first stages of their creation but should not have had a full production yet either.
Presentations will be 10 - 15 minutes long maximum. This could be the total length of your piece, an extract or specific section.
The selected works will centre audiences and have strong potential for a future life in a full production. We will prioritise artists for whom this opportunity will have a significant impact on the development of their artistic practice alongside the work.
Technical Capacity
Rep Stripped is a festival of unfinished and therefore stripped back work. We are looking for artists who can present with very minimal production elements.
All projects must have simple technical and production requirements and consider that the time on-stage before performances is limited to 1-hour per piece. The staging set up will be on Dundee Rep’s main stage in a thrust format, with the audience seated on three sides, rather than in the auditorium alone. Simple lighting will be available (maximum four cues). There will be no costume support on offer. We can provide a dance floor, one stage piano if required and small basic props including table and chairs, acting blocks, and mics on stands. Anything else will need to be self-provided, and should be simple in nature, able to set up and strike within less than five minutes. Applications should be conceived with this in mind.
We want the focus of the festival to be brilliant ideas that are communicated well to an audience, without the need for elaborate tech, particularly at this early stage in the project.
The Offer
- 2 x performance slots at Dundee Rep Theatre
- £500 fee per person involved in the piece
- Travel expenses and subsistence paid at UK Theatre / Equity rates

- If requested and subject to availability, actors or dancers recruited from our pool of regular artists to rehearse the work for one week, paid for by Dundee Rep and Scottish Dance Theatre
- Post-festival mentoring session (one per project) with either Andrew Panton (Artistic Director of Dundee Rep) or Joan Clevillé (Artistic Director of Scottish Dance Theatre) to discuss the work and where it could go next
- Dundee Rep and Scottish Dance Theatre will invite sector colleagues to the performances, and facilitate introductions where appropriate
- Facilitated feedback session with audiences as part of the performance evenings
- Your performance will be filmed (from one-angle shot), and the footage shared with you to use
- Dundee Rep’s box office, front of house and technical staff will be available to support the performances

Application Process & Successful Criteria
Applications are welcomed via the online form below. We also welcome responses via video. There is no formal interview stage, but we may ask you for a quick conversation as part of our decision-making process. The selection panel will consider the following elements:
Artistic
Projects will be assessed on their:
- clarity of idea
- originality
- ambition
- artistic intention
- potential for future life
We will be selecting works that feel exciting, fresh, and will offer an engaging audience experience. We will also factor in curatorial balance, selecting a range of works to give the festival a varied programme across style, tone, form and content.
Applicant
We are open to applicants who have made many works before, and applicants for whom this is their first piece, trying to get their practice off the ground. As part of the process, we will consider the benefit to the applicant and may prioritise those for whom the opportunity will make the most significant difference to their artistic development. This opportunity is only open to lead artist applicants based in Scotland, although your team and collaborators could be based in other areas of the UK.
Dundee Rep and Scottish Dance Theatre are committed to increasing the diversity of artists working in our sector and especially welcome applications from those who identify as having characteristics currently under-represented in the performing arts sector in Scotland.
We can provide access support for artists if required. Please get in touch with stripped@dundeerep.co.uk to discuss your needs.
Financial
The panel will take into consideration the costs of the work and ensure the balance across selected productions is within the wider Rep Stripped budget.
Our budget has been based on an average of two performers per production. We will consider projects with larger casts, but applications will need to justify why this is necessary to the idea, and the benefit to be gained from programming the piece, in place of several smaller works.
Technical
All applications will be screened for their technical feasibility, as set out in the parameters above. Projects will not be successful if the technical and production requirements go beyond what we have outlined we are able to accommodate.
The decision panel will consist of Andrew Panton (Artistic Director of Dundee Rep), Joan Clevillé (Artistic Director of Scottish Dance Theatre), Dorine Mugisha (Independent Performance Artist), Fraser Scott (Rep Stripped Curatorial Lead) and Alison Thomas (Rep Stripped Producer). The projects will also be reviewed by Owen Thomas (Head of Production) to assess their technical feasibility.
Please note we are unable to provide feedback to all applicants but will offer comments to those who are shortlisted.
