Mark Drillich started his musical activities in the 80’s, in Amsterdam-based new wave band Slauerhoff as bass player and songwriter. Slauerhoff released three albums and toured in The Netherlands, Denmark, Germany and Soviet Union.
In 1988 he co-founded the ‘progmetalambientdance’ band Kong with which he released nine albums and toured throughout Europe. Kong developed a nonconformist, eclectical style and a special way of performing: a quadraphonical set-up with the four musicians positioned in the corners of the hall, surrounding the audience.
From 2002 till 2005 Mark was member of multimedia collective The Phillip Project, which triggered his interest in contemporary dance. In composing for dance he finds the freedom to elaborate on his fascination for combining regular instruments in a more or less structured arrangement with organic, abstract chaos of ‘found sounds’, recorded wherever and whenever he finds them.
In the following years he continued playing with Kong, joined rock band The Tapes, composed for Dutch television and worked with choreographers Michael Jahoda and Àngels Margarit.
Since 2014 Mark has worked on a regular basis with Roser López Espinosa as composer and sound designer on productions for a.o. Mercat de les Flors (Spain), Skånes Dansteater (Sweden), Zagreb Dance Company (Croatia) and MiR Dance Company (Germany). The exciting work of Roser gives perfect opportunity to further explore his musical fascinations and challenges him to go in new musical directions.
