Luigi took tap dancing classes at a very young age and doesn’t remember enjoying them much…
He tried again a few years later at the age of 10, this time with Ballet class, and is extremely grateful to his mum for convincing him to go!
Luigi went on to train at The Centre for Advanced Training at the Place, where in his final year he also joined the National Youth Dance Company. Luigi completed his studies at Rambert School and graduated with a first class BA (Hons). During his time at Rambert School, Luigi toured with Rambert Company and Watkins Dance Company. He also worked with Robert Cohan to perform in the Elixir Festival at Sadler’s Wells.
In 2018 Luigi joined Scottish dance theatre full time. In his time with Scottish Dance Theatre Luigi performed works by Sharon Eyal, Anton Lachky, Emmanuel Gat, Joan Cleville, Collette Sadler, Botis Seva and Fleur Darkin amongst others.
In January 2022 Luigi joined Balletboyz for their double bill tour, performing work by Xie Xin and Maxine Doyle. Following that he was also a professional performer as part of the 2022 Commonwealth games opening ceremony.
Alongside his dancing, Lui choreographs his own work. He and fellow Scottish Dance Theatre dancer Jessie Roberts-Smith created the show So Long and Slender which was performed as part of SPUTNIK, Resolution festival and Hidden Door festival. Luigi was also commissioned by Balletboyz, alongside Seirian Griffiths, to create and perform a duet for the queens Platinum Jubilee event in London.
Luckily, Luigi has since changed his mind on Tap dancing from his first experience.
Luigi is now working as a guest dancer with Scottish Dance Theatre and is very excited to be back.
