News Story

Dundee Rep Theatre is thrilled to announce that new musical, A History of Paper, has garnered multiple prestigious awards during its World Premiere run at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Our co-production with Traverse Theatre as part of the Made in Scotland Showcase has received rave reviews from critics and audiences alike throughout August, winning a Scotsman Fringe First award in its first week.

The awards were set up 40 years ago to encourage new writing to come to the Fringe with more than 500 shows eligible for the awards this year.

In its final week, A History of Paper was announced as the runner-up for the Leading Light award for the best Scottish production at the Scottish Theatre Awards at the Fringe and Musical Theatre Review’s Best Musical at Edinburgh Fringe 2024

The MTR team, led by Edinburgh editor Fiona Orr, said:

“A success before its opening performance, this has been one of the biggest hits of 2024. With excellent writing and just the right music and songs, this is truly a production that lives up to the hype and lives in the mind afterwards.”

Director Andrew Panton said:

“We are incredibly honoured by the recognition A History of Paper has received. Making this show has been a moving, funny, exciting and beautifully collaborative process and these awards are a testament to the hard work, creativity, and passion of our entire team. It's truly gratifying to see our work resonate with both audiences and critics, and shows the real impact that theatre can make on people’s lives.”
