Job Description

We are looking for an Associate Director for our upcoming production of The Glass Menagerie. The Associate Director will work closely with the Director, Andrew Panton, to support the creation of the show. There will be some research preparation work ahead of the 4 week rehearsal block in August 2025 going into tech and previews in September 2025 before a six week run in Dundee, Edinburgh & Glasgow. Key dates are outlined below.

What does the role involve?

  • Read and study the play; discuss the interpretation and production concept with the Director.
  • Understand the vision and intention of the production and identify opportunities to enrich it as the production is made.
  • Assist the Director in planning the rehearsal process and work with the Stage Manager and Director to create rehearsal calls.
  • Attend all production meetings.
  • Run specific rehearsals as requested by Director.
  • Attend one/two performance a week at Dundee Rep as well as on tour , reporting back to the Director and, where appropriate, give notes to the cast and production team.
  • Document their experience for the relevant funders.

Who are we looking for?

  • A Scottish based Associate Director – with at least one previous assisting credit on a professional production or has directed a piece of their own work.
  • Someone who is looking to develop mid-scale experience and grow their involvement and responsibility on a production.
  • Someone who is highly organised, confident, flexible, calm and approachable.
  • A good team player who is willing to work collaboratively with the team around the show (creatives, actors, stage managers and staff at Dundee Rep).
  • Someone who embodies Dundee Rep and Scottish Dance Theatre core values and beliefs.

  • Rehearsals 25th August – 21st September 2025
  • Tech & First Previews – w/c 22nd September 2025
  • Previews & Press night – 30 September - 02nd October 2025
  • Run at Dundee Rep Theatre until 18th October 2025
  • Citizens Theatre Glasgow w/c 20th – 25th October 2025
  • Lyceum Theatre Edinburgh w/c 03rd – 08th November 2025
