Punking, later commonly adapted and referred to as Whacking, is a style that emerged in the 1970s underground gay clubs in LA by people of colour. It is distinctive through attitude/behaviour/storytelling, posing and sharp arm movements - known as striking with force (whacking). 

For the first part of the workshop, we will focus on the foundations, delving into the various elements with prompts. For the second part, we will look at a short choreography to put everything together. 

Dorine Mugisha is a French and Tanzanian multidisciplinary artist based in Scotland working across movement, theatre and community practice between the UK and Tanzania. Her practice is often participatory; centering joy, collaboration and exchange. Founder of Whacking Scotland - she is keen on developing the form within various mediums. Through Whacking, she's interested in people finding their own movement, using the tools of Whacking to develop their confidence. Dorine has toured internationally with her solo work Akanana; Sweet Banana and currently developing 'Play on', a show for young audiences.
