About Chess - Dundee Youth Music Theatre

Chess: The Musical is a gripping tale of love, politics, and high-stakes competition, set against the backdrop of the Cold War. With music by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus (ABBA) and lyrics by Tim Rice, the show follows two rival chess grandmasters—one American, one Soviet—whose personal and political battles mirror the tensions of their nations. As they clash in a world championship match, a love triangle emerges between the American’s former lover and the Soviet challenger, leading to intense drama, betrayal, and sacrifice. Featuring iconic songs like “One Night in Bangkok” and “I Know Him So Well”, Chess is a powerful and emotional musical masterpiece.
