Job Description

Dance Base and Scottish Dance Theatre are collaborating to support one Scotland-based independent dance maker to develop their choreographic practice by working with the Scottish Dance Theatre company for one week in November 2024!


The Dance Base & Scottish Dance Theatre choreographer placement will provide a local artist with the opportunity to undertake a week of research and experimentation with the Scottish Dance Theatre company with no expected outcome. This is an opportunity for Scotland-based dance artist to research creative ideas that would benefit from working with multiple performers in a supportive and collaborative environment.

The choreographer placement will provide:

  • A total fee of £1,260.
  • Eight days engagement (3 days preparation and 5 days with the full company of dancers).
  • Mentoring and support from Artistic Director Joan Clevillé and the rehearsal director.
  • Access to existing Dundee Rep and Scottish Dance Theatre costumes & props store.
  • An opportunity to host a sharing at the end of the week.
  • Travel expenses to Dundee, accommodation and per diems (if required).
  • An additional budget to cover access provision.

Who is it for?
This placement is open to dance artists who:

  • Are currently full-time residents in Scotland
  • Have an interest in developing their choreographic practice in the context of repertory dance companies and group ensembles.
  • Have experience in producing and touring at least one professional live performance work.
