I am a just-about-established freelance director and playwright from Glasgow. I create intimate, heartfelt theatre that questions shame, fear and desire. I work with brilliant Scottish talent and respected organisations to create confident, stylish, actor-centred drama and music theatre that strives to generate empathy and catharsis in audiences, inspiring them to take braver action in their lives.
As a playwright, my work includes ‘Svengali’ (in association with Pitlochry Festival Theatre and Pleasance, winner of the Filipa Braganca Award and nominated for BBC Popcorn Award for New Writing), ‘If You’re Feeling Sinister’ with music by Belle & Sebastian (BBC Arts & Avalon) and ‘One Life Stand’ (Middle Child, Paines Plough Roundabout @ Summerhall and UK Tour).
As a director, credits include new writing with Traverse Theatre (‘I Can Go Anywhere’ by Douglas Maxwell) and National Theatre of Scotland (‘The Drift’ by Hannah Lavery) and developing stories by emerging and established playwrights including Kieran Hurley, Gary McNair, Alan Bissett, Stef Smith, Linda McLean, Meghan Tyler, Rona Munro, Laurie Motherwell, Imogen Stirling and David Greig.
